In Spain, around 2.5 million workers receive the minimum wage . This amount, which is set by the Government and has been increasing progressively in recent years, is the minimum amount of money that a worker should receive for their day. In this post we tell you how much it amounts to, what payroll concepts it covers and other details. What is the minimum inter professional wage (SMI)? The minimum inter professional wage (SMI) is the minimum remuneration that a worker must receive for the legal working day, regardless of their type of contract. The SMI establishes the minimum legal limit that employers must pay their employees in compensation for their work. Legally, no worker can receive an income less than the minimum wage.
For those workers who have a part-time contract, the minimum wage will be proportional to the day worked. The inter professional minimum wage is non-seizable. What is the minimum inter professional salary in Spain in 2024? In 2024, the minimum inter professional salary is set at 1,080 gross euros per month in 14 payments, that is, 15,120 gross euros per year . The increase in the SMI, 8% compared to the previous year, was agreed in Email Marketing to Physicians February, but is applied retroactively to January 1, 2024. For temporary workers who do not provide services to the same company for more than 120 days, the SMI in 2024 will not be less than 51.15 euros per day. For their part, for domestic employees who work hourly, the minimum wage will be 8.45 euros per hour . SMI salary increases for all workers The increase in the SMI does not affect all workers , but only those who were already receiving the minimum wage or who start working in companies that do not have a collective agreement.
As indicated in article 27 of the Workers' Statute, "the review of the inter professional minimum wage will not affect the structure or the amount of professional salaries when these, as a whole and annually calculated, are higher than that." That is, salaries above the SMI will not be affected by this increase. Who sets the SMI? The Government is responsible for setting, by Royal Decree, the minimum inter professional salary for each year, after consulting with unions and employers. The SMI increases aim to guarantee sufficient remuneration for workers, maintain their purchasing power in the face of the rise in the cost of living due to inflation , and ensure that the SMI is at 60% of the average salary in 2024. What does the inter professional minimum wage include? The inter professional minimum wage is not equivalent to the base salary, but rather takes into account all payroll concepts, including possible salary supplements. _________________ Job Function Database |
